How To Put On Mascara

There are many types of mascaras on the market today, so first choose a mascara that is appropriate for your lashes and the occasion or environment you will be wearing it in. Michael Todd Cosmetics offers a high volume mascara for dramatic evening looks, a lash-lengthening mascara with moisturizers, and a waterproof mascara for longer wear and hotter weather.

Select a color that matches your hair color. If you have blond or red lashes, a shade of brown mascara; for darker-lashes, consider brown for a casual look, and black or brown-black for more pronounced or dramatic lashes.

  • Curl your lashes with an eyelash curler, if desired, and apply all other eye makeup prior to your mascara. (Some women prefer to apply mascara first, to eliminate any black residue from applying mascara, then apply the eye shadow.)
  • Pull the mascara wand out in one pull. Do not pump the mascara, since this will push air into the tube, and may cause the formula to dry out and bacteria to form in it.
  • Move the brush upwards slowly, starting from the underside of your upper lashes, toward the tips of your lashes. Always hold the wand parallel to your eyelid. Roll the brush slowly on the upward stroke to promote separation of the lashes.

  • Allow the first coat of mascara to dry before applying a second coat in the same manner.
  • Use an eyelash comb to separate the wet lashes. Remove any excess mascara by blotting Also the lashes with tissue paper if necessary.
  • Use less mascara for the lower lashes. Begin where the lashes meet the rim of the lower eyelid, and gently stroke downward.
  • Remove any stray mascara around the eye with a cotton swab dipped in a small amount of eye makeup remover.
